March Outing – Lawson Grasslands to Lake Ginninderra

8 March @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm

Rainer Rehwinkel has kindly invited Field Naturalists to join a very interesting ramble with his Lawson Landcare group.

Date and Time: Saturday 8 March, 9:30 am. There is an open-ended finish time, with morning tea at about 11:00 am

Meeting Place: Dawn Cres, Lawson

Walk Description: The ramble will include a wonderful grassland site at Dawn Cres, a woodland plantation near Lake Ginninderra and a lake-shore site that has a recently discovered population of the endangered Lepidium Ginninderra Peppercress. If time permits, the ramble could also go uphill to another patch of woodland, or alternatively, past a patch of Argyle Apples near the dam alongside Solong St.

Bring: your own thermos of tea or coffee or a cold drink, and a plate of cakes, biscuits or savouries to share, and of course wear sunscreen, a hat, long pants, and sock-protectors.

No nearby public toilets, unfortunately.

Background: Rainer has had very fruitful discussions with various officers from ACT Government departments with the aim of conserving the grassland at Dawn Cres. Agreed actions include the removal of trees, spraying of weeds, erection of conservation bollards, and draft a plan of management to implement a more sympathetic mowing regime.
