Members of Queanbeyan Landcare will be hosting Field Naturalists on a walk in Cuumbeun Nature Reserve.

Time and Date: Fri 4 Oct,  9:30 am – 11:30 am

Description: It is dry schlerophyll forest with quite diverse understorey shrubs and forbs, albeit dominated by red-anthered Wallaby grass. We’ll see what’s flowering! Birds should be active this time of year too!

Walk: A circuitous route on fire trails and narrow but reasonably level bush tracks that usually takes less than an hour, but we’ll allow 1.5 to 2 hours, as Field Natters and Landcarers are easily distracted.

Directions: Cuumbean is about a half hour drive from Civic. Travel past Queanbeyan, then take the Captains Flat Road off the Kings Highway – entrance not well marked – 1.2km on the right: Look out for a white ute with aluminium canopy on the back – go further and take care turning in to the right as it’s on a crest. Park along the gravel verge.

Usual preparations: sturdy shoes, hat, water, field guides, etc.

There will be cake provided by Michele from Queanbeyan at the end of the walk. Also there’ll be an urn of hot water with tea and coffee. Please bring your keep-cups, or your own thermos if preferred.
