Many Field Naturalists joined an outing hosted by Friends of Grasslands at the old Tuggeranong Homestead. There was an introductory talk given by Jenny Horsfield, who then led a walk around the property. Jenny has a wealth of historical knowledge that gave us insights to the impacts of past disturbances on the landscape and ecology. A feature of the day was hearing the Tuggeranong Creek story, then walking along its course. The flow has long been diverted, but now Jenny and friends are restoring the riparian zone vegetation. It is a work in progress, with water flows to also be restored.
After the walk, a Devonshire Tea was provided, with plumb jam coming from the homestead’s historical orchards.
