July Outing – Wetlands of North Canberra

Come along to explore wetlands in the Sullivan’s Creek catchment on a joint Field Naturalists/National Parks Association outing with Isobel, followed by an optional lunch at Dickson

Time and Date: 8:50am, Sunday 7 July 2024

Meeting Place: Dickson Wetland at the shade sails near Hawdon Street carpark. See Google Maps below.

Description: 3 different wetlands will be compared:

First, Dickson Wetland, from 9am

Second, Lyneham Wetland, from about 10am

Third, Bankisa Street Wetland, from about 11am, where we can have morning tea if you’d like to bring a snack

We will be walking between the wetlands. Optionally, you could cycle or drive. You are also welcome to join us at just one or more wetlands and for lunch.

Walk Distance and Rating: 7km max (there and back), flat gradient (Grade 1A).

Duration:  3 hours (approx) walking/strolling, but refer to table below for shorter options.

What to bring: all the normal things like water, binoculars, hand lenses … plus morning tea. Please dress for the weather. We shall be in shade some of the time.

Toilets: Dickson shops, eastern side close to where we cross Cowper Street. Detour possible past Lyneham Shops if needed.

Lunch: If you can join us, our lunch venue will then be ‘Highroad Cafe’, 1 Woolley St Dickson at about 12pm.
